I just finished sewing this fabulous bag. Pattern by Liesl from Disdressed. She also has a children clothing pattern, Oliver + S. The pattern makes a professional looking bag. Even better than Amy Butler, I think. It’s all in the little details, the hardware, the lining, the inside facing, the zippered pocket, everything!

I’m using Etsuko Furuya fabrics. The pattern only need 3/4 yards but since I’m matching the pattern I used the whole length of a yard and have leftovers. But it totally worked! I have a little bird on the frontside, a spider hanging froma thread on the backside, and leaves on all corners.

The inside facing is the dots part, which is also used for the inside patch pocket. For the lining, I used an alphabet print. I’m not sure from what company it came from, there’s no print on the selvedge. I got it from here. And I love the canvas interfacing! Previously, I always used fusible fleece thinking that canvas is going to make the bags heavier. But instead, it gives the bag a nice sturdy structure and defines all the lines. Now I might have to redo all of my Amy Butler bags.

I did cheated a little bit though. I didn’t use the rivets on the strap. I did tried but I just can’t get the little holes lining up perfectly so the rivets can’t go in. So I just sewed it and it worked fine.

it. is. gorgeous.
What a great bag. I love your choice of fabrics and the way you used them…just perfect. That spider on the back is so cute!
I love the bag! The fabric you used is awesome, especially the little spider on the back.
I love the spider coming down from the back pocket!
I really love the way you cut and pieced that fabric. You did such a great job of cutting out all the “usable parts!”
(Sometimes when I think canvas might be too heavy, I use denim instead. It’s still sturdy, but a little softer than the canvas.)
Lovely! Excellent use of the fabric. So nice to see such an elegant interpretation of the pattern; thanks!
omg, it is beautiful…and that fabric, wow! PERFECT
I love this bag .. and the fabric is great! Thanks for letting us know what it is.
This is truly one of the most beautiful handmade bags I’ve ever seen! I love it. Great job.
Amazing fabric choices! Wow! Better than Liesl’s version sold at Purl Patchwork. Where do you buy your canvas interfacing from? I can’t bear to use fleece anymore.
Thanks for posting!
